Brush Cassia, Cassia brewsteri

Spectacular shade and feature tree.

Brush Cassia or Leichhardt Bean is a wonderful shade and feature tree for the home garden. It is particularly spectacular when in bloom. Throughout summer large clusters of fragrant golden-yellow flowers hang next to the vibrant green leaves. This tree also attracts nectar seeking bees and butterflies to the garden and is the host plant for caterpillars of the Lemon Migrant butterfly, Catopsilia pomona.

Description

The Brush Cassia is an impressive tree typically growing to a height of 10m. Clusters of bright yellow-ornage flowers adorn the tree in spring and summer. The flowers are followed by long cylindrical seed pods which ripen in winter.

Growth requirements

Growing in most garden settings, Brush Cassia prefers fertile loamy soils. For optimal growth, ensure moderate watering, good drainage, and ample sunlight.
