Butterfly Garden

A vibrant garden, full of colour and life.

Bursting with native plants and alive with fluttering butterflies, this vibrant garden has been designed to attract and nurture butterflies at all stages of their lifecycle.  The garden showcases butterfly host plants, nectar plants and a stunning array of native species that you can try growing in your home garden.

Visitors can follow the journey of the threatened Richmond birdwing butterfly as it transforms from egg to adult, relax on one of the butterfly themed seats or learn how to create a butterfly‑friendly garden. Informative plant labels throughout the garden connect to growing information on the botanic garden website.

The best time to visit the garden if you want to see butterflies is during the warmer months. Outside of this period of peak insect activity, you'll still see plenty of life as the garden is a hub for birds and other pollinators.
