Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi Country

Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi people have lived here for tens of thousands of years.

For tens of thousands of years, the Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi people have held detailed botanical knowledge of the forests, woodlands, heathlands and wetlands of this Country, known now as the Sunshine Coast.  Traditional Owners have observed, described and understood the flora of this Country, building up complex knowledge of the connections between plants, seasons and the environment.

Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi connection with this place and the importance of the plants that once grew here prolifically are reflected in many local place names still in use, such as Buderim (hairpin/honey suckle banksia), Bli Bli (Bilai - casuarina) and Mudjimbah (place of the midyim berry).
