Karamat is an aquatic herb which can be found growing amongst paperbarks, along creeks and in drainage channels. This native plant is host for a number of butterflies including caterpillars of the Chocolate Argus, Junonia hedonia, Meadow Argus, Junonia villida and the Varied Eggfly, Hypolimnas bolina. The flowers are also pollinated by blue banded bees.
Description
Karamat is a clumping plant that can grow up to 60 centimetres in height features small lilac flowers from spring to autumn.
Growth requirements
Karamat likes moist, fertile soil. It thrives in damp spots along the edge of dams or ponds and will even survive partially submerged. It can be used with other water loving plants to make a frog bog in a large pot or around a butterfly puddling area.
