Artist in Residence: Nicole Jakins

Autumn 2024 in the Arts and Ecology Centre

Award-winning artist Nicole Jakins turns her creative curiosity and exquisite metalsmithing and salvaged sculpture techniques to the Botanic Garden collection this Autumn.

Over a three week residency, she will be exploring diverse habitats and translating them through her craft. Drawing inspiration from the ferns and gums of the Upland Track, seasonal bodies of water, wildflowers and endangered species, Nicole will document sense of place and specimens into 3D form.

Nicole's project 'Quiet, My Soul' will reflect the sanctuary and stillness of the Botanic Garden as experienced by visitors, whilst telling the story of its important biodiversity, as refuge for flora and fauna.
