A rainforest shrub with fragrant, creamy flowers and small edible fruits. Fruit is enjoyed by birds. The shrub is also host plant for the Eastern dusk-flat butterfly, Chaetocneme beata.

Description

Open shrub 2–6 m with attractive glossy leaves. Cream flowers with a waxy appearance and strong sweet smell. Small, round green fruits ripen to yellow and smell like guavas.

Growth requirements

Best in part shade to shade with moist, rich, well‑drained soil. Needs adequate soil moisture. Water in dry periods and mulch to retain soil moisture. Grows slowly, prune lightly to encourage denser growth. and protect from hot, drying winds.
