Hardy shrub with attractive papery seed capsules.

A tough, attractive shrub with bright green foliage and colourful papery seed capsules. Great plant for difficult spots. Parrot species like the king parrot feed on the papery seeds. The shrub is also host plant for caterpillars of the Fiery jewel butterfly, Hypochrysops ignitus.

Description

Slender shrub usually 2–3 m tall with narrow lance‑shaped leaves. Small flowers in spring followed by decorative, papery three‑winged pods that darken as they age.

Growth requirements

Prefers full sun to light shade and well‑drained soils. Tolerates dry and coastal conditions. Light prune after fruiting to keep compact and encourage denser growth.
