Join returning Artist in Residence Charlotte Haywood for a unique interdisciplinary event exploring orchid ecology, hidden partnerships in nature, and the interconnected systems that sustain life.
Developed from research undertaken during Charlotte's residency in July 2026, Strings Attached investigates the self-organising nature of life through soft sculptural, woven textile practice and sound. The project draws on the fascinating relationships between orchids, fungi, insects and humans, revealing stories of reciprocity, coevolution, adaptation and care.
This special one-off showcase brings research and ideas together through a canastoria - an experimental performance moving between spoken text, poetry, sculptural image, sound and conversation, accompanied by a live composer.
The afternoon features:
- An introduction to native orchid identification with local orchid specialist Joan Heavey
- Sculptural textile works, field recordings and research reflections by Charlotte Haywood
- A string performance by multi-instrumentalist Suzanne Simpson (violin and viola)
Strings Attached invites audiences to consider the intricate connections that shape our living world, and to lean into orchid ecology with new reverence and curiosity.
Registration is FREE. Please RSVP to let us know you'll be attending.
