Paper Daisy, Xerochrysum bracteatum


Low maintenance plant with attractive bright golden-yellow flowers.

The Paper Daisy is a widespread plant found throughout Australia. It will bring wonderful colour to your garden with its bright golden-yellow flowers as an individual or in mass plantings. The flowers are also excellent for drying. It is well suited for container plantings, garden beds, and rockeries. It is the main host plant for caterpillars of the Australian Painted Lady Butterfly, Vanessa kershawi and its flowers provide nectar for a number of adult butterfly species.


Description

The Paper Daisy is an upright herb growing to approximately 1m in height. The leaves are usually soft and hairy and clustered at the base of the plant. The large flower heads are about 4 cm across and form from winter to summer.


Growth requirements

Paper Daisies grow best in full sun and well-drained soil. It is a low maintenance plant that is tolerant of poor soil conditions and low moisture.
