A tough, attractive clumping plant with strappy leaves, delicate blue-purple flowers and showy purple berries. Flowers are visited by native bees and the berries attract fruit‑eating birds. The plant is host for the Dingy grass skipper butterfly, Toxidia peron.
Description
Perennial clumping plant to 40–80 cm tall. Clusters of small, blue star-like flowers with yellow stamens form on wiry stems in spring–summer. The flowers are followed by glossy purple to blue berries.
Growth requirements
Grows in sun or part shade in most soils. Low‑maintenance and drought‑tolerant once established. Remove spent flower stems to keep plants tidy.
